Much in demand on the opera-stage some of RACHEL FRENKEL’s recent engagements include Komponist in Ariadne in Naxos at Staatsoper Hamburg, Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Staatstoper Berlin with Daniel Barenboim conducting and Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Fenena in Nabucco and Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro all at the Wiener Staatsoper. She made her debut at the Salzburger Festspiele as Stimme des Falken in Die Frau Ohne Schatten and at the the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden as Dryade in Ariadne auf Naxos both with Christian Thielemann conducting. At the Osterfestspiele Salzburg she sang the role Mercedes in Carmen under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle.
She will return to the Staatsoper Wien to sing Rosina, Cherubino as well as Angelina in Le Cenerentola. With the Budapest Festival Orchestra and maestro Ivan Fischer she will perform Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro in the New York Mostly Mozart Festival, Budapest and Konzerthaus Wien. Other future invitations include Cherubino with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and conductor Gustavo Dudamel, Cherubino at the Lyric Opera of Chicago and the same role at the Bayerische Staatsoper. She will make her debut at the Glyndebourne Festival as Ramiro in La Finta Giardiniera.
As a concert singer, her recent highlights include a.o. Bach's Magnificat with the Berliner Philharmoniker conducted by Ton Koopman as well as Vivaldi’s Stabat Mater with Camerata Salzburg, Bernstein's 1st Symphony with the NHK Symphony Orchestra Tokyo and Mahler's Rückert Lieder with the Japan Century Symphony Orchestra in Osaka. She has also sung with all major Israeli orchestras in a variety of repertoire from the baroque to the 20th century. Most recently she sang with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra in Rossini’s Stabat Mater and Haydn’s Arianna a Naxos. She is scheduled to sing Mozart’s Requiem with the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra.
Rachel Frenkel was a member of the studio of the Staatsoper Berlin Unter den Linden for the seasons 09/10 and 10/11 and during that period she already performed major roles on the main stage in Berlin such as Mercedes in Carmen, Flora in La Traviata, Siebel in Gounod’s Faust, Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro, Dorabella in Cosi fan tutte, Milli in Der Ferne Klang and Zaida in Rossini’s Il Turco in Italia.
She graduated at the Buchmann- Mehta School of music in Tel-Aviv and participated in the New Israeli Opera Young Artist Program, where she performed the roles of Hänsel in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel and Zweite Dame in Mozart's Zauberflöte.
Rachel Frenkel has won several excellence scholarships from a.o. the Tel Aviv University and The America- Israel Sharet Artists Foundation.
