Bass OREN GRADUS is an alumnus of the Houston Grand Opera Studio. While in Houston, the Brooklyn native performed such roles as Gremin in Eugene Onegin, Sparafucile in Rigoletto, Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte, the Capitán in Daniel Catán's Florencia en el Amazonas, and Seneca in L'incoronazione di Poppea. Other engagements have included Mr. Gradus's Wolf Trap Opera debut as Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro, Peter Quince in A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Colline in Glimmerglass Opera's production of La bohème. Some of Mr. Gradus' engagements in 2003/2004 have included his debut with the San Francisco Opera in The Mother of Us All, followed by a return to the Metropolitan Opera for performances of Colline in La bohème, which he also sang with Opera Colorado later that winter.
In the spring of 2004, he sang Timur in Turandot with Houston Grand Opera. Upcoming engagements include performances in the world premiere of Catán's Salsipuedes with Houston Grand Opera; Garibaldo in Handel's Rodelinda and Colline in La bohème at the Metropolitan Opera; Mephistopheles in Faust with Pittsburgh Opera; Leporello in Don Giovanni in Marseille; Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro in Houston; and Masetto in Don Giovanni in Paris.
