Engaging audiences with his dynamic flair and virtuosic skill, PETER JABLONSKI is a popular and critically acclaimed performer. Born in Lyckeby, Sweden, Jablonski came to prominence in his early teens, performing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in Warsaw and Krakow. This was soon followed by concerts with both the Swedish and Danish Radio Orchestras. At the age of 18 he was brought to the attention of Vladimir Ashkenazy, who invited him to record the Gershwin Piano Concerto for Decca, raising Peter Jablonski to international recognition.
Peter Jablonski has given concerts on all five continents, both in recital and with many orchestras. Highlights have included the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin (with whom he has also made a number of recordings), BBC Symphony, Philharmonia, and Cleveland Orchestras, the Kirov Orchestra/Gergiev, NHK Symphony/Ashkenazy, Czech Philharmonic (including performances at the Lucerne Festival under Ashkenazy), Orchestre National de France/Chung, in addition to the London, Stockholm, and Oslo Philharmonics.
Recent engagements have included concerts with the Leipzig Gewandhaus, the Orchestra Filarmonica della Scala di Milano, the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the Cincinnati Symphony, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. Plans this season include performances with the Gothenburg Symphony and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie, and a tour with the Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire. A frequent performer in the Far East, he will be appearing with the Malaysian Philharmonic, the Osaka Philharmonic, and the Tokyo and KBS Symphonies.
In addition to his concerto performances, Peter Jablonski has an extensive recital repertoire and will be performing at the Flanders Festival as part of this year’s theme Forza Musica!, the Festival “Rarities of Piano Music” in Husum (Germany), and further solo recitals in Hong Kong and Istanbul.
Peter Jablonski is Artistic Director of the annual Karlskrona Chamber Music Festival in Sweden. He is also Artistic Director to Altara Records, for which he has recently recorded the Prokofiev and Shostakovich Cello Sonatas with Ralph Kirshbaum. Together the duo has given a number of recitals, including at the Frick Collection in New York, and they will perform at the Ravinia Festival and in La Jolla in 2008. His most recent release for Altara is a recital CD featuring Mazurkas by Chopin, Szymanowski, and Maciejewski.
2007 saw the release of Prokofiev Piano Sonatas for the Octavia label. Jablonski also has made several CDs for Decca – his disc of Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini and Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 1 under Ashkenazy was given the Edison Award. He also collaborated with Anne Sofie von Otter and Bengt Forsberg in a recording of works by Cécile Chaminade for Deutsche Grammophon which received a Gramophone Award in 2002.
In June 2005 Peter Jablonski was awarded the Litteris et Artibus Medal by the King of Sweden for pre-eminent achievement as a pianist. In 1998 he received the Orpheus Award at the Warsaw Autumn Festival for his premiere performance of Wojciech Kilar’s Piano Concerto, which was written for and dedicated to him. And in 1996 he won the Årets Svensk I Världen – an annual award presented to those who have contributed to the worldwide promotion of Sweden.
