BENEDIKT KRISTJANSSON was born in Húsavík, Iceland. He studied with Professor Scot Weir at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin and participated in masterclasses with Christa Ludwig, Peter Schreier, Elly Ameling, Robert Holl, Thomas Quasthoff, Andreas Schmidt, and Helmut Deutsch. In 2011 he won the 1st Prize and the Audience Prize of the International Bach Vocal Competition in Greifswald. In 2012 followed again the Audience Award at the International Bach Competition in Leipzig. Beside opera guest engagements at the State Opera Berlin, different concerts led him to Reykjavík, Oslo, Szczecin, Zürich, The Hague, and Jerusalem, where he performed the tenor parts in Bach’s B-minor Mass, Christmas Oratorio, St. John Passion, and St. Matthew Passion as well as in Mozart’s Requiem and Handel’s Messiah.He regularly works with ensembles and conductors such as the Holland Baroque Society under Reinbert de Leeuw, the Collegium 1704 under Vaclav Luks, the Dresdner Philharmoniker, the Hofkapelle München under Reinhard Goebel, and the Stuttgart Bach Academy under Hans-Christoph Rademann.This season he has also been invited by the Handel Festival Halle for Acis und Galathea together with the Collegium Marinarum under Jana Semeradova.
