About this Artist
MEGAN SWAN has had a passionate and exciting career in the Los Angeles music and arts education fields since moving from Chicago in 1999. She is the co-founder and Executive Director of the Young Musicians Performance Academy (YMPA), an extra-curricular music program founded in 2005 with a mission to bring diverse music into the lives of young musicians. Through well-rounded, performance-based jazz and world-music education, Megan drives YMPA to teach youth not only to be great musicians, but to be culturally connected innovators, fearless thinkers and insightful, expressive communicators.
Ms. Swan enjoyed a tenure in the Education and Orchestra Management departments of the Los Angeles Philharmonic where she worked on major events such as Toyota’s Symphonies for Youth, the Bronislaw Kaper Awards, and hundreds of concerts at both the Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Hollywood Bowl.
As a musician, Megan has played trumpet with artists such as Dawn Upshaw, Kelly O’Connor, Barry Manilow, Bill Watrous, Kanye West, Jamie Foxx, and T-Pain, and in orchestras under John Williams, Buddy Baker, and H. Robert Reynolds. She is an avid proponent of bringing live music to events around the country, and is music director and contractor for several local and touring ensembles. Megan holds the Bachelor of Music in Trumpet Performance from the University of Southern California where she studied with the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s own, Boyde Hood.
