In great demand for his impeccable musicianship and his sensitivity to text, French baritone FRANÇOIS LE ROUX has been a guest artist with most of the major opera houses, recital series, and orchestras in Europe. His wide repertoire encompasses the baritone roles in the major German and Italian operas, and he is a frequent guest on the great concert stages of the world. Also a consummate recitalist, he recently gave a European recital tour of Wolf’s Italienisches Liederbuch and has offered solo recitals throughout Europe. Collaborating with such renowned artists as Irwin Gage, Roger Vignoles, and Graham Johnson, he has gained a reputation as a distinguished interpreter of French mélodies.

Le Roux has recorded for Le chant du monde, Decca, Delos, Denon, Deutsche Grammophon, EMI, Erato, and REM. His most recent solo release is a collection of Debussy Mélodies for Le chant du monde. His other recent recordings include songs by Saint-Saëns with Graham Johnson on the Hyperion label; Pelléas et Mélisande with Claudio Abbado for Deutsche Grammophon; a recital record based on fables by La Fontaine for EMI; a recording with the Monte Carlo Philharmonic of French Mélodies, also for EMI; and the complete Fauré songs for REM. His debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic came in February 1995 in the Los Angeles Opera’s production of Pelléas et Mélisande.
