About this Artist
Los Angeles native LARANCE MARABLE is one of the most sought-after jazz drummers on the Los Angeles scene today. Largely self-taught, he quickly became a top-choice drummer as jazz luminaries made their tour stops in LA, including such artists as Charlie Parker, Dexter Gordon, Stan Getz, Zoot Sims, and Wardell Gray. Marable has recorded with the Montgomery Brothers, Chet Baker, George Shearing, Sonny Stitt, and Milt Jackson, and he has recorded as a leader, with tenor saxophonist James Clay, for the Jazz West label. In the 1970s, Marable toured with Bobby Hutcherson and with Supersax, and has since been an active freelancer in jazz clubs and concert halls throughout LA and beyond. More recently, he has been a regular member of Charlie Haden’s Quartet West, touring and recording with the group.
