ROB MATHES, arranger/composer/performer
AS ARRANGER/CONDUCTOR: Rob has orchestrated music for a number of stars including recent records by: Mary J. Blige, Rod Stewart, Lou Reed, George Michael, Celine Dion, Vanessa Carlton, Tim McGraw, Michael Bolton, Elton John, R Kelly, Natalie Cole, and Marc Anthony. Sting recently recorded Mathes' arrangement of the classic American song "In The Wee Small Hours Of The Morning". He has written music for cellist Yo Yo Ma and recently arranged "You'll Never Walk Alone" for The Three Tenors-Live In Paris CD. He has been the arranger and guitarist on the last six Pavarotti and Friends concerts held each year in Modena, Italy and orchestrated music for the closing ceremony of the Olympics last year. He has just finished arranging the new Tony Bennett-k.d. Long record after arranging Tony's Grammy winning "Bennett Sings The Blues", and has written some orchestrations for pop artist Sade and Jazz Pianist Eliane Elias for BMG Records.
AS PRODUCER: Rob has produced two new CD's for Vanessa Williams to be released back to back on Lava/Atlantic. Rob has co-produced and arranged tracks on Rod Stewart's Great American Songbook recordings, working closely with Clive Davis. Rob also co-produced Carly Simon's recent Disney Soundtrack recording for Piglet's Big Movie and produced Jazz Artist Jackie Allen's Love Is Blue CD, just released on A440 Music Group.
AS COMPOSER/SONGWRITER: Rob's songs have been recorded by: Bonnie Raitt, Aaron Neville, Vanessa Williams, Faith Hill, Jon Secada, Wynonna Judd, Michael Crawford, Randy Travis, Alabama, Oleta Adams, Suzi Boguss and Kathy Mattea.
AS MUSIC DIRECTOR: These past two years he has been the musical director for both the Songwriter's Hall Of Fame Awards and NBC's Concert For America taped at the Kennedy Center on 9/11 as well as the KENNEDY CENTER HONORS on CBS. He was the Music Director for the star studded Bono tribute during this year's Grammy week. He arranged and conducted for Babyface and Stevie Wonder on the 1998 Grammy Awards. He served as musical director for the Phil Ramone-produced show The Score for Trio cable network as well as the ONE WORLD JAM: A CONCERT FOR GLOBAL HARMONY show taped at Radio City Music Hall for UPN Network. He was also the music director for the Quincy Jones produced World Economic Forum concert at the Waldorf Astoria in 2002 featuring artists from all over the world including: Renee Fleming, Hakim, Khaled, Noa, Lauryn Hill, India Arie, and Herbie Hancock.
AS PERFORMER: Rob was the special guest artist for The Boston Pops National Christmas Tour in 2000. In 2000, PBS televised nationwide his own Christmas special Christmas Is Coming featuring Michael McDonald, Vanessa Williams, David Sanborn, and renowned actor Ossie Davis. He has also just completed his years in the making Pop record "Evening Train" to be released in 2004.
