Mezzo-soprano MARIA MATVEYEVA (Fyodor) has been a prizewinner at Russia's Silver Voices competition of young opera singers (Moscow, 2000), and is a diploma recipient from the International Rachmaninoff Competition (St. Petersburg, 2005).

Born in Leningrad, Matveyeva studied at the St. Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory. She has been a chorus artist with the Mariinsky Theater since 2003. Singing the role of Fyodor in Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov, she has performed on tour with the Mariinsky Opera Company in London (Covent Garden), Stockholm (Royal Opera House), and Paris (Théâtre du Châtelet). In 2005, she performed the mezzo-soprano part in Mozart's Requiem in Finland. Her additional repertoire at the Mariinsky Theater includes the Second Squire and The Voice from Above (Parsifal), Rosina (Betrothal in a Monastery), the Maidservant (Elektra), and Barena (Jenufa).
