About this Artist

Librarian KAZUE ASAWA MCGREGOR joined the Los Angeles Philharmonic Music Library in 1984 mentoring under the former head librarian, James Dolan, until his retirement in 1995. Since then she has been active in the international Major Orchestra Librarians’ Association and has served on their board and as president.

Ms. Asawa McGregor received her B.M. and M.M. in flute performance from the University of Southern California where she also worked as assistant to the former USC Symphony music director, Daniel Lewis. This association later led her to serve as music librarian at the Ojai Festival (1981-1983) and work on the staff of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Institute (1981-1984).

Prior to joining the Philharmonic she was an Artist-in-Residence at Whittier College and actively taught and performed in the greater Los Angeles area. She was a frequent substitute flutist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Her CD Music for Koto and Flute with Kazue Kudo is available on Crystal Records.

She enjoys spending time with her husband Rob Roy, former Los Angeles Philharmonic trumpeter, and with their son and daughter, Isamu and Misao.
