About this Artist
Since 2001, MenAlive, the Orange County Gay Men's Chorus, has built a national reputation as a first-class arts organization delivering exceptional musical entertainment. MenAlive is honored to return to the Hollywood Bowl for its fifth appearance, having also graced stages at choral festivals across the United States and abroad.
MenAlive's repertoire spans the full spectrum of choral artistry, from the classical elegance of Johannes Brahms and Morten Lauridsen to the stirring Americana of Aaron Copland and Stephen Foster, and the theatrical brilliance of Jerry Hermann and Stephen Sondheim. The chorus has devoted entire concerts to iconic artists, including ABBA, Queen, Elton John, and Madonna, while also championing original compositions written especially for them. This eclectic programming ensures something for every listener.
Beyond the stage, MenAlive pursues its mission to "build bridges to the public at large" through both artistry and service. The chorus actively supports arts groups, nonprofits, health organizations, and community programs, with members volunteering at local food banks and other vital services.
Through music and outreach, MenAlive works toward a world where all people are accepted and affirmed for their unique gifts—regardless of gender, race, or sexual orientation. As proud representatives of the LGBTQ community, they spread a message of joy, hope, and reconciliation that resonates far beyond their performances.
Artistic Director Gavin Thrasher brings distinguished credentials to the podium, holding a Master of Music from USC.
