Joe Morton is currently impressing audiences and fans with his portrayal of Rowan Pope on the ABC hit series Scandal.
Film audiences may know Joe from crowd-pleasers such as: Stealth with Jamie Foxx, Jessica Biel, and Sam Shepard; John Woo’s Paycheck with Ben Affleck and Uma Thurman; Speed; Executive Decision; The Astronaut’s Wife; Blues Brothers 2000; or as the ill-fated scientist Miles Dyson in Terminator 2–Judgment Day. His more serious films include: Gary Sinise’s Of Mice and Men in which he portrayed “Crooks;” and John Sayles’ Lone Star; City of Hope; and, perhaps Joe’s best known credit, The Brother From Another Planet.
Recently, Mr. Morton wrapped up five seasons as Henry Deacon on Syfy’s hit series Eureka (for which he also directed). Other starring roles include: Equal Justice for ABC; Under One Roof with James Earl Jones on CBS; Tribeca for FOX (for which he also directed); and recurring roles on: NBC’s Law & Order and E-Ring; the WB’s Smallville; and CBS's The Good Wife. Joe has turned in noteworthy performances as Malcolm X in FOX’s Ali: An American Hero; the award-winning cable feature Miss Evers’ Boys; and a spectacular star turn in The X-Files.
Morton has narrated numerous on-air documentaries including the eight-part documentary Africa on PBS and is one of the narrators on the enormously successful Ken Burns documentary Jazz.
Mr. Morton is a Tony Award nominee and Theatre World winner for his portrayal of Walter Lee Younger in the musical Raisin. He premiered in David Hare’s Stuff Happens at the National Theatre in London as Colin Powell; and played “Serge” in Art on Broadway with Judd Hirsch and George Wendt, and later reprised the role in London's West End.
