About this Artist

Tenor JONAS OLOFSSON (Louis Ironson / Angel Oceania) was educated at the Conservatory of Music in Gothenburg, Sweden. After completing his Master of Arts studies he was offered a two-year traineeship at the International Opera Studio of the Hamburg State Opera. This provided him with the opportunity to sing the parts of Spoletta in Tosca, a Nobleman in Lohengrin, Fourth Jew in Salome, Ruiz in Il trovatore, and Moser in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. When the Hungarian composer Peter Eötvös’ opera Angels in America had its première at the Hamburger Staatsoper in Germany in 2005, Olofsson performed the role of Louis Ironson, making him the second person to ever sing this role. Olofsson also performed the role of Louis Ironson when Eötvös himself conducted the opera for the Holland premiere at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam during the Holland Festival in 2006.

Since then, Jonas Olofsson has worked as a freelance and recital singer, mainly in Sweden. He has performed on stages such as the renowned Berliner Kammeroper, Wermland Opera, and the Gothenburg Opera, singing roles such as the leading part of Tom Rakewell in The Rake’s Progress, Fourth Jew in Salome, Borsa in Rigoletto, Spoletta in Tosca, and Rustighello in Lucrezia Borgia. In fall 2012, he performed the role of Squeak in Benjamin Britten’s opera Billy Budd at the Gothenburg Opera.
