A founding member of the San Francisco Actor’s Workshop in the ’50s, PRISCILLA POINTER has enjoyed an acting career that spans many years of repertory theater. The San Francisco Actor’s Workshop, founded by Jules Irving and Herbert Blau, slowly grew to be well-known for new and original work. They were invited in 1965 to head the new Lincoln Center Theatre Company in New York City. During the years there, Pointer appeared in The Country Wife, The Condemned of Altona, Galileo, and The Caucasian Chalk Circle, and originated numerous roles in new plays, such as A. R. Gurney’s Scenes from American Life, James Hanley’s The Inner Journey, and Peter Handke’s The Ride Across Lake Constance.

On television she played leading roles on Where the Heart Is and Dallas. Her films include Looking for Mr. Goodbar, Blue Velvet, The Onion Field, The Falcon and the Snowman, Mommie Dearest, and Carrie, in which she appeared with her daughter, Amy Irving. She has also acted in the French film Deux with Gérard Depardieu.
