Tenor BRIAN THORSETT studied piano and mathematics at Santa Clara University before taking up his vocal education at San Francisco University in 2001. He rounded off his studies at the Music Academy of the West with Marilyn Horne and as participant of the San Francisco Opera Merola Program and the Glimmerglass Young American Artist Program.
Thorsett made his first stage experiences in the course of university productions and guest appearances with Pocket Opera, Berkeley Opera, West Bay Opera, San Francisco Lyric Opera, and Livermore Valley Opera, performing such roles as Mayor Upfold (Albert Herring), Nerone (L’incoronazione di Poppea), Rinuccio (Gianni Schicchi), Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Pedrillo (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Jupiter/Apollo (Semele), Gennaro (Lucrezia Borgia), Edmondo (Manon Lescaut), and Fenton (Die Lustigen Weiber von Windsor). In 2009 he will make his debut with Idaho Opera as Ferrando in Mozart’s Così fan tutte.
As a concert singer Brian Thorsett fosters a stylistically diversified repertoire which has taken him to numerous U.S. concert halls and includes works like Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s Mass in B minor, Mozart’s Mass in C minor, Rossini’s Stabat mater, Beethoven’s Christus am Ölberge, Britten’s War Requiem, and Berlioz’ Lélio.
