Bolivian-born mezzo-soprano GIAN-CARLA TISERA has performed in world renowned concert halls such as London's Wigmore Hall, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Vienna Konzerthaus, and Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. In 2005 the New Jersey Courier Times in the United States praised her performance as Rosina in Rossini's The Barber of Seville as one endowed with "a dramatic beauty that complements her rich mezzo voice." Recent operatic roles include Nancy in Britten's Albert Herring, Cendrillon in Cendrillon by Massenet, Nerone in Handel's Agrippina, Tisbe in Rossini's Cenerentola, and Tituba in The Crucible by Robert Ward. Her performance experience ranges from Baroque to 21st-century opera and solo concert music, having performed excessively as a soloist and chamber musician with the British chamber orchestra Florilegium, the Pasadena Symphony, the USC Symphony Orchestra, and the National Symphony Orchestra of Bolivia, among many others. In 2004 she recorded Bolivian Baroque with Florilegium for the Dutch label Channel Classics; in 2005 the CD won the Editor's Choice Award, the People's Choice Award, and the Early Music Award in Europe. She has also performed with Florilegium in Miami, and in Bolivia, Holland, England, Germany, Austria, Turkey, and Spain. Her performances have been broadcast on radio stations internationally and on 91.5 Classical KUSC in Los Angeles. Engagements for 2007 include concerts in Switzerland and France and performances of Grigori Frid's one-woman opera The Diary of Anne Frank with Long Beach Opera in Austin, Texas. Tisera currently resides in Los Angeles.
