Erich Wildpret

About this Artist

Acknowledged as one of Venezuela’s most accomplished actors, ERICH WILDPRET has always preferred the stage to the screen. After graduating from the National School of Theater when he was only 17, he made his debut with the internationally acclaimed theater company Rajatabla, with plays such as Cipango and No One Writes to the Colonel. Henrik Ibsen’s Peer Gynt was his third play, and for his performance in the title role he was awarded his first M.A.E Award for Best Actor.

Wildpret continued to work on stage as more leads followed, in plays such as Spring Awakening, Israfel, The Heart in a Cage, Suite of Silence, Heiner Müller’s The Mission, Beyond the Horizon, Concerto Baroque, Death and the Plowman, and Pigsty, receiving critical praise nationally and internationally, two more M.A.E Awards, and the National Artist Award for Best Actor.

Among his film roles are Clemencia in Love in Concrete, for which he received the CNAC Award for Best Actor; Gabriel Martinez from In High Contrast, which garnered him a Frailejon Award for Best Actor in the recent V Festival of Venezuelan Cinema; and Julian in A Distant Place, which earned him a Star Award for Best Actor.

Wildpret’s list of film credits include Memoirs of a Soldier, The Magic Hour, Samuel, Upside Down, Unauthorized, All the Jewels, Ellipsis, Manuela Saenz, The Last Cut, A Dream in the Abyss, and Maya. In theater, he has appeared in The President, Love’s Labours Lost, Blazonry of Wolves, Bolivar, Ferocious Animals, The Candid Erendira, and The Tempest.

He has performed in theaters worldwide, including those in England, Germany, Italy, Spain, Argentina, the United States, Canada, Portugal, Mexico, and Australia; and has participated in the most prestigious theater festivals, including New York’s Shakespeare in the Park, London’s International Festival of Theater, and the Festival dei Due Mondi.
