About this Artist
Benjamin Champion began his musical training with his parents when he was 11. Benjamin is a Senior at Idyllwild Arts Academy, where he studies composition with Mark Carlson (UCLA), and piano performance with Dr. Jeanette Yaryan at Idyllwild. Through this program, Benjamin’s chamber pieces have been performed by the musicians of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Master Chorale, the L.A. Percussion Quartet, and the Calder String Quartet. Benjamin’s orchestral compositions “Pale Blue Dot” (2016), and “Migrations” (2017) were premiered by the Los Angeles Philharmonic during their Symphonies for Schools concerts. His piece for solo Bassoon was premiered at the Ojai Music Festival by Rebekah Heller of I.C.E., summer 2016. Benjamin studied composition with Martin Amlin and Justin Casinghino at the Young Artist Composition Program at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, summer 2016. Benjamin studied composition at the Yellow Barn International Chamber Music Festival, in June of 2017. Benjamin’s compositions “Breathless” (string quartet) and “Blue Limbo” (piano, bass, and cello) were premiered during this festival.
