About this Artist
Leo Major is a 16-year-old rising senior at Crossroads School for Arts & Sciences in Santa Monica. His passion for music began with piano lessons at age six. He started playing alto saxophone at age 12 and began composing in sixth grade. Leo currently studies composition with Sean Friar, saxophone and flute with Katisse Buckingham, and classical piano with Dr. Ming Tsu. Leo has been a fellow in the LA Phil Composer Fellowship Program since 2017. His honors include ASCAP’s 2019 Morton Gould Young Composer Award, the 2019 YoungArts Merit Award in composition, and being a Marvin Hamlisch Film Scoring Competition finalist. Leo plays saxophone in Crossroad’s A band and previously played at the Colburn School. He received a Spotlight Merit Award in Jazz Performance and attended the NextGen Monterey Jazz Festival three times. He has attended BUTI Tanglewood’s Composition Program and the Atlantic Music Festival. In addition, he enjoys producing and performing electronic music.
