About this Artist
Katherine E. Tam is a senior at Walnut High School. She started learning the piano at age 6 with the Yamaha Music Education Program. She also started learning the violin at age 8 and has been a member of her school’s orchestras since middle school. Katherine has studied piano under Stacy Wang and Eric Wang at Playtime Music Center and completed the MTAC Level 10 in 8th grade. At age 10 and under Mrs. Wang, Katherine participated in the Yamaha Junior Original Concert with her first composition, which received Honorable Mention. She has won several awards for both piano and violin performance at the Southwestern Music Festival and several other competitions/festivals. In 2012, Katherine participated in the MTAC Young Composers of Today (Div. III) and received second place for her composition. Katherine draws inspiration from composers like Frédéric Chopin and Ludwig van Beethoven to John Williams, Hans Zimmer, and Nigel Hess. She hopes to pursue music composition in college, further enhance her music and composition knowledge, and to one day compose scores for movies and shows.
