About this Artist
Joey Karz is a senior at Brentwood School and has been a fellow in the LA Phil Composer Fellowship Program since 2018. He has been studying piano since he was five years old and composing since he was 12. Joey studies piano, music theory, and composition at the Colburn School. He also writes and performs in both the jazz band and choir at Brentwood School. In 2019, he studied composition at Boston University Tanglewood Institute, where he composed for various ensembles and had his music performed by students and professionals. Joey has attended Interlochen Arts Camp for two summers. Outside of music, Joey loves to play sports and is on Brentwood School’s football team. Joey’s pursuit of his education in music composition furthers his goal of becoming part of the professional community of musicians and composers.
