About this Artist
The winner of the 1999 Richard Tucker Award, mezzo-soprano STEPHANIE BLYTHE appeared at the Metropolitan Opera during the 1998-99 season in Giulio Cesare, and has been featured in the house’s international radio broadcasts of The Rake’s Progress, Peter Grimes, and Andrea Chenier, among others. She has also appeared at the Los Angeles Opera and Cincinnati Opera, as well as the Opera Company of Philadelphia. Blythe continues to assume a unique variety of diverse operatic roles. In addition to her accomplishments encompassing works from Handel to Verdi, her future plans range from the title role in Offenbach’s La Grande Duchesse with L’Opera Francaise, to next season’s appearances as Fricka in Stephen Wadsworth’s new productions of Das Reingold and Die Walkure at the Seattle Opera, and the following season’s engagement as Isabella in the Opera Company of Philadelphia’s production of L’Italiana in Algieri. Next season also finds Blythe’s appearances in the title role of Carmen for the first time. Return engagements are already planned for The Metropolitan Opera, Bastille Opera, and Seattle Opera, among others.
