Max Wagner

About this Artist

Max Wagner is a Los Angeles-based freelance guitarist and multi-instrumentalist. In demand as a sideman, studio player, and pit musician, he’s shared the stage with Broadway stars Emma Hunton, Lilli Cooper, and Tony Award-winner Lindsay Mendez, among others. Max’s extensive Los Angeles theater credits most recently include productions of Jesus Christ Superstar (LACHSA), Bright Star (Candlelight Pavilion and Fullerton College, on 5-string banjo), The Last Five Years (After Hours Theatre Company), and Shrek The Musical (3-D Theatricals). In 2019, he also played guitar for the regional premieres of Something Rotten (Musical Theatre West) and Fun Home (IVRT), and up next is the regional premiere of Kinky Boots with 3DT. Max can frequently be seen playing at the Rockwell Table and Stage, Hotel Café, and other local venues as a sideman for artists, cabarets, and rock bands. Over the last two years, he’s started splitting time between New York and Los Angeles, working on Sam Carner and Derek Gregor’s newest show Techies and playing a set of their work at the Kennedy Center. In December 2017, Max released his original composition “Kaleidoscope,” a song entirely recorded on a single acoustic guitar, played with a wide variety of techniques and effects. An accompanying video can be found on his website. Max is also the guitarist for the award-winning John Burroughs High School show choir in Burbank, CA.
