About this Artist

Nils Giebelhausen (tenor) studied voice with Hanno Blaschke (Munich), Anna Maria Castiglioni (Milan), and Wilfried Jochens (Hamburg) and took masterclasses with Barbara Schlick. In 1998, he gave his operatic debut in A. Draghi’s baroque opera “La patienza di Socrate con due mogli” conducted by Alan Curtis. In 2000, he performed the role of Pastore in C. Monteverdi’s “Orfeo” at the Bavarian State Opera and in 2004, the role of Blifil in F.-A. Philidor’s opera “Tom Jones” at the Bamberg Early Music Festival.

Regular engagements in his concert repertoire – with a focus on J.S. Bach’s oratorios – have taken Nils to many German cities, as well as to Austria, Canada, Denmark, France, Great Britain, Japan, Poland, Spain, Switzerland, and have included numerous CD recordings and radio productions with many European ensembles such as Cantus Cölln, Musica Fiata, Johann-Rosenmüller-Ensemble, Chapelle Rhenane, and the Balthasar-Neumann-Chor, as well as with conductors including Marcus Creed, Thomas Hengelbrock, Konrad Junghänel, Peter Neumann, and Frieder Bernius.

In the season 2020/21, there will be his first cooperation with Ton Koopman, who has invited him to sing Bach’s Christmas Oratorio at the Grafenegg Festival in Austria with the Orchesterverein der Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde Wien and as his U.S. debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. Also on the schedule, there is a European tour with Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, which will be repeated in summer 2021 at the Leipzig Bach Festival.
