About this Artist

A finalist in the 2004 Kathleen Ferrier Competition and recipient of numerous scholarships and awards, CLAIRE BOOTH (Max) has become internationally renowned for her versatility and musicality in performance. An acclaimed champion of 20th and 21st century works, she nevertheless combines this with a strong commitment to classical repertoire for which she is equally esteemed.

In opera, roles include Rosina, Dorinda (Orlando), Ellida (Lady from the Sea) for Scottish Opera, Nora (Riders to the Sea) for English National Opera, Anne Truelove with CBSO, Solveig (Peer Gynt) with HSO, Max (Where the Wild Things Are), Lucia (The Rape of Lucretia) both for Aldeburgh Festival, Prakriti (Wagner’s Dream) for Netherlands Opera, Zerlina, First Niece (Peter Grimes) and Elle (La voix humaine) for Opera North, Despina for Opera Nantes-Angers, and Mélisande for Opera Theatre Company.

Her numerous concert appearances have resulted in close associations with the BBCSO, the CBSO, the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, and Ensemble intercontemporain, with regular performances at the BBC Proms, Aldeburgh, and Holland Festivals; Amsterdam Musiek; and the Concertgebouw.

Highlights from the 2012/13 season are set to include her return to the BBC Proms in Debussy’s Le Martyre de Saint Sébastien; her Welsh National Opera debut, where she revives the role of Prakriti, Knussen’s Whitman Settings with BBCSO as part of the Barbican’s 60th birthday celebrations for the composer; Mozart concert arias with the Berlin Deutsche-Symphonie and Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra with her long-time collaborator Ryan Wigglesworth; and Kurtag’s Kafka Fragments at the Royal Opera House.
