About this Artist
Mark D’Leon, a Maranatha High School senior, is a 2021/22 fellow in the LA Phil Composer Fellowship Program. His musical journey began at seven years old, performing alongside his dad at church. Being self-taught, he challenged himself to pursue five instruments including drums and piano. Mark has played in numerous ensembles including the Saint Francis High School Drumline/Percussion Ensemble, playing the snare, marimba, and other percussion instruments, serving as the first eighth grader to participate at this level. Other ensembles include The Salvation Army Pasadena Tabernacle Band, the Maranatha High School orchestra, and a college-level jazz band playing drums and saxophone. Throughout his experience, Mark has performed in venues such as the historic Santa Anita Racetrack and Disneyland. Outside of performing and composing, Mark enjoys traveling, cooking, and playing hockey, and is a third-year varsity letterman in soccer.
