About this Artist
Ashlee Sung is a 2022/23 fellow in the LA Phil Composer Fellowship Program. Ashlee is 16 years old and a junior at Arcadia High School. She has been playing the violin for 13 years and composing for 5 years – and during that time, she has won first place in the PTA Reflections’ Music Composition category, twice. Ashlee prefers any music with a simple melody but complex, elaborate harmonies; which explains her love for symphonies. She wrote her first symphony, “Prologue,” in 2019, and her most recent symphony, “Mistletoe Berries” in 2022. Symphonies are her favorite type of piece to compose, though she also takes pleasure in composing simple piano trios, such as “Unspoken Feelings” (2021) for violin, clarinet, and piano. When she isn’t practicing the violin or writing music, Ashlee enjoys drawing in her free time.
