Pacho Flores

About this Artist

Multi-award-winning Venezuelan trumpeter Pacho Flores was a first-prize winner at the Maurice André Competition, Philip Jones International Competition, and the “Città di Porcia” International contest in addition to being awarded a Gold Medal by the Global Music Awards for his album Entropía. His most recent recording for Deutsche Grammophon, Estirpe (2022), was nominated in three categories at the 2023 Latin Grammy Awards, with Paquito D’Rivera’s Concerto Venezolano awarded Best Classical Composition.

Flores made his Hollywood Bowl debut in 2023 with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Gustavo Dudamel performing Arturo Márquez’s Concierto de Otoño following his season-long residency with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, where he and Chief Conductor Domingo Hindoyan were branded “The Dream Team.” Further recent highlights include performances as soloist with the San Francisco Symphony, Minnesota Orchestra, New World Symphony, Tampere Philharmonic, San Diego Symphony, NHK Symphony, Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra, Arctic Philharmonic, Turku Philharmonic, Orchestre National de Lille, and Frankfurt Radio Symphony.

In the 2024/25 season, Flores was artist-in-residence with the Duisburger Philharmoniker in Germany, where he performed in multiple concerts including concertos, chamber music collaborations, and in recital as soloist with organ. Additional highlights included his debut with the Houston Symphony (Hindoyan) and returns to the San Francisco Symphony (Carlos Miguel Prieto) and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic (Hindoyan).

Trained in the groundbreaking El Sistema music education program in Venezuela, Flores is equally at home across many musical genres and is an advocate for new commissions. He has premiered works by composers Efraín Oscher, Giancarlo Castro, Santiago Báez, Hilda Paredes, Christian Lindberg, Paquito D’Rivera, Arturo Márquez, Roberto Sierra, Gabriela Ortiz, and Daniel Freiberg. Flores is also a founding member of the Simón Bolívar Brass Quintet and former Principal Trumpet of the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra. He is dedicated to fostering the next generation of trumpet players and is Founding Director of the Latin American Trumpet Academy in Venezuela.

Flores is a Stomvi artist, performing exclusively on instruments that have been developed and built for his performances. He records exclusively for Deutsche Grammophon, and his discography includes Cantar with the Konzerthaus Orchester Berlin and Christian Vásquez, Entropía, Fractales with the Arctic Philharmonic and Christian Lindberg, the double CD-DVD Cantos y Revueltas with Real Filharmonía de Galicia and Manuel Hernández-Silva, and Flores’ latest album, Estirpe, with Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería and Carlos Miguel Prieto.
