About this Artist
A native of Lima, Peru, guitarist JORGE CABALLERO began his musical studies with Oscar Zamora at the city’s National Conservatory. As a young student, he received numerous awards, including first prize at the Peruvian Conservatory Competition and first prize at the first Latin American Guitar Competition, which took place in Montevideo, Uruguay. This prize included a major tour, with concerto performances for the then-16-year-old Caba-llero in Mexico City, Washington, D.C., and throughout South America. At the age of 19, Caballero became the first guitarist to win the Naumburg International Competition in New York City. This led to solo appearance in Alice Tully Hall, at the Library of Congress, and other venues throughout the United States, and concerto appearances with the Richmond and Springfield Symphony Orchestras, the Naples Philharmonic, the Kansas City Chamber Orchestra, and the St. Luke’s Chamber Ensemble. He has also appeared as a soloist with the Los Angeles Mozart Orchestra.
