About this Artist
Pianist Bogang Hwang, born in South Korea, began playing piano at the age of six. She graduated from the Sunhwa Arts High School, where she had won the Excellence Performance Award for three consecutive years. Also, she was a recipient of the Sunhwa Piano Society Scholarship. She earned her bachelor’s degree at Seoul National University under the tutelage of Ick-choo Moon. She is currently pursuing her Master of Music degree with Fabio Bidini at Colburn Conservatory of Music, where she earned an Artist Diploma degree as well.
She is a prize winner in many compeons in Korea such as the Eumag Chunchu Compeon, Eumyoun Piano Compeon, The Korean Liszt Compeon, and The Seoul Orchestra Compeon. Recently, she was a prize winner of the 71st Wideman International Piano Compeon in Louisiana, USA. She has also participated in several festivals, including Norfolk Chamber Music Fesval, PianoTexas, Aspen Music Fesval, SNU International Piano Academy, SNU International Chamber Music Fesval, and Rebecca Penneys Piano Fesval.
Highlights from recent and upcoming performances include the Prokofiev Piano Concerto No.2 the Colburn Orchestra with conductor Lionel Bringuier at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Brandenburg Concerto No.5 with the Pasadena Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Nicholas McGegan, and chamber music performances at the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival.
As an active chamber musician, she is one of the founders of Sonarsix, which was appointed as Colburn Arst and a prize winner from Fischoff National Chamber Music Compeon. In addition, she is a member of the Kontrapunktus Baroque Ensemble playing harpsichord.
She has received master classes from pianists such as Jon Kimura Parker, John Owings, Yoheved Kaplinsky, Christopher Harding, Yoshikazu Nagai, Ian Hobson, Ralf Gothoni, Eduardus Halim, Jeno Jando, Jeux Thibaudet, Orli Shaham, Pedja Muzijevic.
