About this Piece

Arvo Pärt (b. 1935) has gained prominence as one of the most gifted choral composers of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. A devout Orthodox Christian, Pärt left his native Estonia in 1981 for Germany, where he could write more freely in his chosen religious vein. His later works display a fascination with the polyphonic forms of early music and with ideas drawn from Gregorian chant. Bogoróditsye Dyévo was commissioned in 1990 by King's College Choir, Cambridge.
