The first half of tonight’s concert presents piano duo Bill Charlap and Renee Rosnes’ stunning jazz treatments of Stephen Sondheim masterpieces from groundbreaking shows like Company, Follies, and Sweeney Todd, featuring the dynamic voice of Tony-nominated and platinum award-winning singer/songwriter Ann Hampton Callaway, and a soaring string ensemble exquisitely arranged by Renee Rosnes and led by the distinguished Associate Conductor of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, Scott Dunn. With the brilliant Steve Wilson as guest soloist on alto and soprano saxophone, the elegant artistry of Sean Smith on bass, and the thrilling virtuosity of Matt Wilson on drums, this concert will underline the beauty and diversity of Stephen Sondheim’s songwriting genius.
