About this Piece
Henry Flynt has contributed in many ways to the creative culture of the 1960s. He coined the term conceptual art. He fronted cult punk and rockabilly bands. He pioneered the Fluxus sensibility and contributed to it in several listings works, where Minimalism met conceptual art. Listings works are works that only exist in program note form. The first was Young’s An Invisible Poem Sent To Terry Jennings For Him To Perform (1960). At the 1960 concert in which it was programmed Young asked Jennings, “Why didn’t you perform the invisible poem?” Jennings replied, “I did; didn’t you hear it?” Flynt’s Work such that was the world’s second listings work.
