WHAT: Brooklyn-based experimental rock band Dirty Projectors debuts at Walt Disney Concert Hall on Saturday, February 27, at 8 p.m. in a co-headlining performance with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. A collaborative endeavor, the first half of the program features the Los Angeles Philharmonic performing Wagner's Prelude to Act III, Tristan Und Isolde; and Ravel's Suite to Mother Goose. Dudamel Fellow Diego Matheuz conducts. Additionally, pianist, John Orfe performs Ligeti's Piano Etude #13, from Book 2, L'escalier du Diable, and Piano Etude #5, from Book 1, Arc-en-ciel. Selections were chosen by the Los Angeles Philharmonic and David Longstreth of Dirty Projectors.
For the second half of the program, the Dirty Projectors present The Getty Address, their groundbreaking album released in 2005, performed in full with New York-based contemporary music ensemble Alarm Will Sound, conducted by Artistic Director Alan Pierson in an arrangement by Matt Marks.
Following The Getty Address performance, Dirty Projectors closes the show with a set of material from their most recent and critically acclaimed album, Bitte Orca.
