WHAT: British conductor Daniel Harding returns to Walt Disney Concert Hall for the first time since 2004 to lead the Los Angeles Philharmonic in three performances, Friday, October 26, at 11 am, Saturday, October 27, at 8 pm, and Sunday, October 28, at 2 pm. The program opens with Korngold’s Violin Concerto featuring one of today’s most outstanding violinists, Renaud Capuçon, who made a celebrated recording of the piece for Virgin Classics in 2009. The concert closes with Mahler’s emotion-filled Fifth Symphony.
Daniel Harding is music director of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, principal guest conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra and music partner of the New Japan Philharmonic. He’s also artistic director of the Ohga Hall in Karuizawa, Japan, and was recently honored with the lifetime title of conductor laureate of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. His recent recordings for Deutsche Grammophon, Mahler’s Symphony No. 10 with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and Orff’s Carmina Burana with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, have won widespread critical acclaim.
Renaud Capuçon made his LA Phil debut in July of 2008 at the Hollywood Bowl and has returned to perform with the orchestra there and at Walt Disney Concert Hall. He is an exclusive Virgin Classics artist, and has just released a new recording of the Brahms and Berg violin concertos, with Daniel Harding conducting. He is also a serious chamber musician and a frequent presence at Martha Argerich’s Lugano Festivals. Capuçon plays a 1737 Guarneri del Gesù, the "Panette" that belonged to Isaac Stern, bought for him by the Banca Svizzera Italiana. In June 2011, he was appointed “Chevalier dans l’Ordre National du Mérite” by the French government.
