In 2009, when he assumed the title of Chief Conductor, the contract was again extended to 2015. In February 2011 it was announced that Petrenko would take up the position of Chief Conductor of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra in the 2013-14 season. Petrenko’s recent recording of Shostakovich’s Tenth (part of his ongoing Shostakovich cycle on the Naxos label) was named Orchestral Recording of the Year at the 2011 Gramophone Awards. Petrenko recently won the 2012 Echo Klassik “Newcomer of the Year Award” for his EMI Classics recording of Rachmaninoff’s Third Symphony, and has just been named 2012’s Classic BRIT Male Artist of the Year.
Simon Trpčeski has established himself as one of the most remarkable musicians to have emerged in recent years, performing with many of the world’s greatest orchestras and captivating audiences worldwide. Born in 1979, Simon Trpčeski has won prizes in international piano competitions in the United Kingdom, Italy and the Czech Republic. From 2001 to 2003, he was a participant in the BBC New Generation Scheme, and in May 2003, he was honored with the Young Artist Award by the Royal Philharmonic Society. In December 2009, the President of Macedonia H.E. Gjorge Ivanov honored him with the Presidential Order of Merit for Macedonia.
The concerts are preceded by Upbeat Live discussions, free to all ticket-holders, and held in Walt Disney Concert Hall’s BP Hall one hour prior to each performance. Alan Chapman, KUSC-FM radio host, composer-lyricist and pianist, hosts.
