    WHAT:       On Wednesday, August 28, 2013 legendary jazz saxophonist and composer Wayne Shorter observes his 80th birthday at the Hollywood Bowl. Guest artists feature a jazz “who’s who” of friends and musical colleagues honoring the span of Shorter’s musical career.

    The program will feature the Wayne Shorter Quartet with Danilo Pérez, John Patitucci, and Brian Blade, with special guests Herbie Hancock and the Imani Winds; ACS with Geri Allen, Terri Lyne Carrington, and Esperanza Spalding; and Joe Lovano and Dave Douglas Quintet: “Sound Prints.”

    Wayne Shorter, born August 25, 1933, has a continually expanding body of work which is inextricably linked to the history of modern music. His music transcends genre while keeping the improvisational genius and surprise of jazz burning at the center. Regarded as one of the most significant and prolific performers and composers in jazz and modern music, Wayne Shorter has an outstanding record of professional achievement in his historic career as a musician. He has received substantial recognition from his peers, including nine Grammy awards to date.
