    WHAT:        Hector Olivera launches the 2013/14 Organ Recital Series at Walt Disney Concert Hall on Sunday, October 13, 2013, at 7:30 PM with a program featuring works by Bach, Franck, Boëllmann, Bossi, Widor, and Bonnet.

    A passionate, gifted, and unique musician, Olivera’s personal interpretations of both classical and popular music have amazed and delighted audiences around the world. Born in Buenos Aires, Olivera begin playing the pipe organ when he was three. By eighteen, he had performed more than three hundred concerts throughout Latin America, appearing frequently on Argentinean radio and television. During his illustrious career, Olivera has also performed all over the world in such prestigious venues as the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris, Carnegie Hall in New York, Royal Albert Hall in London, and Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. Olivera has also performed as guest soloist with orchestras throughout the world. Olivera’s 2010 performance at Walt Disney Concert Hall prompted the Pasadena Star to write “The audience was on its collective feet at the end, deservedly…. No encores were played… or needed.”

    An Upbeat Live pre-concert event will take place in BP Hall at 6:30 PM and is free of charge to all ticket holders. Designer of the Walt Disney Concert Hall organ, Manuel Rosales of Rosales Organ Builders, and Organ Conservator of the Walt Disney Concert Hall organ Philip Smith host.

    The Walt Disney Concert Hall organ was inaugurated in 2004 at the opening of the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s second season in the new Hall. Designed by Frank Gehry and Manuel Rosales of Rosales Organ Builders, the Walt Disney Concert Hall organ contains pipes ranging in size from a pencil to a telephone pole, and is voiced with a wide dynamic range from pianississimo to a breathtaking fortissimo. The specially curved wood façade pipes were made by Glatter-Götz Orgelbau of solid, vertical grain Douglas fir and consist of the Violone and Bassoon basses. Behind the façade are three levels of pipes, including metal pipes made of tin and lead alloys and wood pipes made of Norwegian pine.
