Due to preparation time constraints, Emanuel Ax and Yo-Yo Ma will not perform the LA Phil-commissioned new work by Anders Hillborg originally programmed for the LA Phil February 25 recital at Walt Disney Concert Hall, but will instead perform Brahms’ Cello Sonata in D major, Op. 78. The recital, part of the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s Colburn Celebrity Recital series, is one of four programs that comprise the Ax Brahms Project. For this mini-festival, Ax invited several of today’s top composers to create pieces to be paired with Brahms’ timeless chamber works.
