WHAT:

The LA Phil's Jazz series for the 2016/17 season concludes Sunday, May 7 with Dave Grusin presents: Jazz from West Side Story and Bill Charlap presents: JAZZ and Sondheim - Side by Side.

The evening will feature world-renowned Academy Award and multiple Grammy-winning pianist/composer Dave Grusin presenting his ingenious jazz interpretation of Bernstein's classic West Side Story. 

Jazz and Sondheim - Side by Side, which opens the evening, is a stunning jazz treatment created by Bill Charlap, acclaimed pianist who won the 2016 Grammy for Best Traditional Pop Album with Tony Bennett; renowned jazz pianist/composer Renee Rosnes, who orchestrated the string arrangements for the show, and has worked with a veritable who's who of jazz including Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter, J.J. Johnson and Ron Carter; and Tony-nominated singer and platinum-selling songwriter Ann Hampton Callaway. Jazz and Sondheim - Side by Side will explore the sophistication, wit and genius of one of Broadway's most innovative artists.

Liz Callaway replaces Ann Hampton Callaway, who has withdrawn from the performance due to illness. Liz Callaway is a Tony nominee and Emmy Award-winning actress, singer, and recording artist. She made her Broadway debut in Stephen Sondheim's Merrily We Roll Along, received a Tony Award nomination for her performance in Baby, and for five years, won acclaim as Grizabella inCats. She has also starred in the original casts of Miss Saigon,The Three Musketeers, and The Look of Love.
