  • YOLA (YOUTH ORCHESTRA LOS ANGELES) BRASS ENSEMBLE TO PERFORM NATIONAL ANTHEM AT DODGER STADIUM ON JULY 5
  • Jun. 29, 2017
  • Los Angeles, CA (June 29, 2017) - A brass ensemble from YOLA (Youth Orchestra Los Angeles) will perform the National Anthem at the Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Arizona Diamondbacks game at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday, July 5. The ensemble will be composed of 19 YOLA students from the top orchestras at each of YOLA's three sites - YOLA at EXPO Center, YOLA at HOLA and YOLA at LACHSA. The students were selected through an application process in which they expressed how they have contributed to their own communities, and how the experience will benefit their futures as musicians, citizens, and leaders in their communities. To prepare for this performance, students have the opportunity to rehearse at Walt Disney Concert Hall with YOLA Teaching Artists, as well as their conductor, Juan Felipe Molano.

"We are excited to have these talented students perform at Dodger Stadium," says Nichol Whiteman, Executive Director of the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation. "YOLA is a such wonderful program in our own backyard empowering youth through music, and we're thrilled to support them.

"YOLA focuses not only on music but on the importance of being engaged citizens and active members of the community.  We're honored that these musicians from YOLA have been invited to demonstrate that commitment by participating in the rich tradition of the Dodgers in Los Angeles," says Gail Samuel, Acting President and Chief Executive Officer of the LA Phil.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, YOLA (Youth Orchestra Los Angeles) is LA Phil Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel's signature initiative through which the LA Phil and community partners provide free instruments, intensive music training, and academic support to students from underserved neighborhoods, empowering them to become passionate learners and vital citizens. Beginning with 80 students in 2007, YOLA today serves nearly 800 students studying 15 to 18 hours per week at three after-school sites where mentorship and leadership training is integral. YOLA students have the opportunity to work with LA Phil musicians and world-renowned artists and conductors, travel to cities foreign and domestic, and perform in iconic venues Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Hollywood Bowl. YOLA is made possible in South Los Angeles, the Rampart District and East Los Angeles through the following community partners that share fiscal and programmatic responsibilities with the LA Phil: EXPO Center, Harmony Project, Heart of Los Angeles, and LA County High School for the Arts.

Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation is the official team charity of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
