KENNY ROGERS MAKES HIS BOWL DEBUT AS SPECIAL GUEST IN PATRIOTIC PROGRAM WITH LOS ANGELES PHILHARMONIC AND CONDUCTOR RANDALL CRAIG FLEISCHER
JULY 2, 3, AND 4 at 7:30 PM
Join the patriotism at the Hollywood Bowl for the annual red-white-and-blue salute to America's birthday at the "Target July 4th Fireworks Spectacular" on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, July 2, 3, and 4, at 7:30 p.m. Randall Craig Fleischer leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic for the all-American program, which includes American standards and Sousa marches, complete with fireworks above the famous stage. Country music superstar Kenny Rogers makes a special appearance for his Hollywood Bowl debut, singing some of his familiar favorites.
An American icon, there are few artists of KENNY ROGERS' stature. In the span of five decades, Rogers has recorded 59 albums, which have sold across the globe making Rogers a worldwide phenomenon. As one of country music's most successful crossover artists, Rogers has won accolades that include four Grammy Awards, 11 People's Choice Awards, 18 American Music Awards, eight Academy of Country Music Awards and five Country Music Association Awards. His hits such as "Gambler" and "Buy Me A Rose" have gone on to spawn successful television events, Gambler and Touched By An Angel, respectively. Today, Rogers continues to challenge himself with new recordings and live performances, while remaining a vocal champion of hunger-relief charities. This performance will be Kenny Rogers' debut at the Hollywood Bowl.
Conductor RANDALL CRAIG FLEISCHER is currently Music Director of the Anchorage Symphony Orchestra, while also holding posts with the Hudson Valley Philharmonic and the Flagstaff Symphony. As Music Director of the Hudson Valley Philharmonic, Fleischer has strongly focused on education and outreach programming. As a composer, Fleischer is active in the artistic exploration of rock-classical fusion and making the symphony more accessible. In collaboration with comedian Heidi Joyce, Fleischer has co-authored several instructional pieces for children. Currently, his children's program entitled "Cool Concerts for Kids" is being performed by orchestras around the country. In 1991, Fleisher co-authored Martin Luther Kind Jr: A Spiritual Journey for Washington, D.C.'s National Symphony Orchestra; he received great acclaim for this exploration of the civil rights movement and Dr. King's speeches. Fleischer was last seen at the Hollywood Bowl in the summer of 2002.
One of the largest natural amphitheaters in the world, with a seating capacity of just under 18,000, the HOLLYWOOD BOWL has been the summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic since its official opening in 1922, and, in 1991 gave its name to The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, a resident ensemble that has filled a special niche in the musical life of Southern California. A hit from its very first season, the Hollywood Bowl has remained popular and accessible to a wide cross-section of Southern California's
diverse population. To this day, $1 buys a seat at the top of the Bowl for many of the Los Angeles Philharmonic's concerts. While the Bowl is best known for its sizzling summer nights, during the day California's youngest patrons enjoy "SummerSounds: Music for Kids at the Hollywood Bowl," the Southland's most popular summer arts festival for children, now in its 35th season. Attendance figures over the past several decades have soared: in 1980 the Bowl first topped the half-million mark and last summer, close to one million admissions were recorded. It is no wonder that the Bowl's summer music festivals have become as much a part of a Southern California summer as beaches and barbecues, the Dodgers and Disneyland.
