JANUARY 4 - MARCH 28, 2004
KUSC To Carry Concerts Locally; Program Syndicated Nationwide
The Los Angeles Philharmonic begins its third year of radio broadcasts on 91.5 FM KUSC on Sunday, January 4, 2004 [check local listings for dates and times in other markets]. From the West Coast to the East Coast, participating radio stations will broadcast the syndicated series. Continuing the partnership that began in 2002 when Los Angeles Philharmonic concerts first returned to the airwaves, Los Angeles classical music station KUSC, WFMT Radio Networks in Chicago, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic are partnering again to produce and distribute thirteen broadcasts, which are heard locally on KUSC at 4 p.m. on Sundays.
The weekly program can be heard in Los Angeles each Sunday at 4 p.m. from January 4 - March 28, 2004 on Classical KUSC. The programs are distributed by WFMT Radio Networks to over 200 stations nationwide. This year's series includes eleven programs from the Philharmonic's 2002/2003 concert season, and two of the recent Walt Disney Concert Hall opening night gala concerts.
Launching the series on January 4 is a special broadcast of the Sonic L.A. performance, led by Music Director Esa-Pekka Salonen, from the October 23, 2003 opening night gala. Living L.A., the October 24, 2003 gala program also led by Salonen, features cellist Yo-Yo Ma, the world premiere of John Adams' The Dharma at Big Sur (commissioned for the opening of the Hall), and music by Salonen and Revueltas; it closes the series on March 28. A complete list of concert programs follows.
Popular radio commentator Gail Eichenthal continues this year as host of the series. Ms. Eichenthal began hosting Philharmonic radio broadcasts in 1978; last season she created the special intermission
features focusing on different aspects of the Philharmonic from conversations with soloists and composers to highlights of Walt Disney Concert Hall. This season, interviews with guest artists and conductors are featured.
