New Sounds About Town Series Brings Los Angeles Area Youth Orchestras To New Venue
The Los Angeles Philharmonic has launched Sounds About Town, an innovative concert series bringing Los Angeles area youth orchestras to Walt Disney Concert Hall. The series gives young musicians the opportunity to perform in a world-class venue while highlighting some of the premier youth orchestras in the City of Los Angeles.
"The Sounds About Town series is one of the many ways the Los Angeles Philharmonic is helping the community experience Walt Disney Concert Hall," says Deborah Borda, President of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association. "The series not only gives young, emerging musicians the chance to perform in this great concert hall, but it also exposes the community to the young artists who will become the professional musicians of tomorrow."
The Sounds About Town series is a program of six Sunday evenings at Walt Disney Concert Hall highlighting the Los Angeles area's premier youth orchestras, giving young musicians from all over Los Angeles the opportunity to perform in the new Walt Disney Concert Hall. The series began on January 11 when Los Angeles Philharmonic Music Director Esa-Pekka Salonen lead the Crossroads Chamber Orchestra in the first concert of the series. The series continues with the Colburn Chamber Orchestra on February 15; the American Youth Symphony on February 22; daKAH hip hop orchestra on March 14; the USC Thornton Symphony on April 18; and the Young Musicians Foundation Debut Orchestra on May 2.
Tickets for the Sounds About Town concert series can be purchased online at LAPhil.com, in person at the Walt Disney Concert Hall box office, or by calling 323.850.2000.
Walt Disney Concert Hall is the new home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. The Philharmonic presents over 150 concerts at the new venue each year including jazz, world, baroque, holiday and celebrity recital performances.
