    FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 13, AT 8 PM AT THE FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH, POMONA

    The Los Angeles Philharmonic takes classical music out of Walt Disney Concert Hall and into the community on Friday, February 13, at 8 p.m., when Assistant Conductor Yasuo Shinozaki leads the orchestra in its annual community concert at the First Baptist Church in Pomona. The program includes Beethoven's Coriolan Overture and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6, "Pathétique." The program is performed without intermission.

    Community concerts presented by the Los Angeles Philharmonic are part of the Philharmonic's mission to share the orchestra's artistic and cultural resources with the many diverse communities that comprise the city of Los Angeles. Throughout the year, the orchestra travels to various locations, presenting concerts in Los Angeles-area community centers and churches in order to bring classical music to a broader audience.

    Tickets ($5) go on sale February 2 at the City of Pomona Community Services Department, located at

    YASUO SHINOZAKI is currently Assistant Conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Shinozaki regularly leads the Philharmonic in its community concert series and in the Symphonies for Youth programs. In February 2002, Shinozaki made his subscription series debut with the orchestra in three all-Beethoven concerts. Continuing to work in a wide range of repertoire with orchestras throughout Japan including the Kansai Philharmonic Orchestra and Osaka Symphony Orchestra, Shinozaki has also conducted the Helsinki Philharmonic as well as the Turku Philharmonic. Shinozaki made his opera debut in 1993 with The Marriage of Figaro in Tokyo and has since conducted at several opera houses in Japan. Shinozaki completed his conducting studies at the Vienna Musikhochschule with Leopold Hager and has also worked with Seiji Ozawa and Bernard Haitink at Tanglewood.
