Los Angeles Philharmonic Pairs the Russian Virtuoso with Accompanist Evgenia Startseva in a Colburn Celebrity Recital
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 3, AT 8 PM
The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association continues its popular Colburn Celebrity Recital series with a performance by Russian violin virtuoso Maxim Vengerov at Walt Disney Concert Hall on Wednesday, March 3 at 8 p.m. Vengerov is accompanied by pianist Evgenia Startseva in a performance of Brahms' Sonatas Nos. 1, 2, and 3 for Violin and Piano.
In his late twenties, MAXIM VENGEROV is already recognized as one of the world's most exciting violinists. Since he started playing at the age of four, he has evolved from a precociously talented child into an assured virtuoso. At just 10 years old, Vengerov won the Junior Wieniawski Competition in Poland. In 1997, at age 23, Vengerov was appointed Envoy for Music by the United Nations' Children's Fund (UNICEF), the first classical musician to be appointed in this role. Since October 2000, Vengerov has been a professor of violin at the Musikhochschule des Saarlandes. Vengerov performs regularly with all the major orchestras and the most eminent conductors. As a solo violinist, he has won many accolades, including Gramophone's Artist of the Year and Grammy nominations for Classical Album of the Year and Best Instrumental Soloist with Orchestra.
EVGENIA STARTSEVA was born in Kazakhstan. She studied in Moscow with Irina Savina, and then graduated from The Gnessin Academy of Music. As a post-graduate, Startseva studied first at the Moscow State Conservatory with Professor Mikhail Nikeshichev and then at the Musikhochschule in Saarbrucken with Professor Robert Leonardy. Startseva has given recitals both as soloist and accompanist throughout the former USSR, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Italy. She has also made numerous broadcasts for Eastern Kazakhstan Television. Together with the violinist Nadezhda Korshakova, she has recorded works by Mozart, Prokofiev and Shchedrin for a disc that was released in 2000 by DMK Classics. More recently Startseva appeared together with Maxim Vengerov at the Classical Brit Awards.
