Pianist Alon Goldstein makes his Bowl debut in the all-Tchaikovsky program, performing the Piano Concerto No.1. DAVID ALAN MILLER has established a reputation as one of the leading American conductors of his generation. Frequently in demand as a guest conductor, he has worked with most of America's major orchestras, including Philadelphia, New York, Los Angeles, Detroit, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, Baltimore, Houston and Indianapolis, as well as the New World Symphony and the New York City Ballet. As Music Director of the Albany Symphony Orchestra, a position he has held since 1992, Miller has proven himself a creative and compelling orchestra builder. Through exploration of unusual repertoire, educational programming, community outreach and recording initiatives, he has reaffirmed the Albany Symphony's reputation as a leading champion of American symphonic music and one of its most innovative orchestras. Recent honors include Columbia University's 2003 Ditson Conductor's Award, the oldest award honoring conductors for their commitment to American music. Prior to his appointment in Albany, the Los Angeles native was Associate Conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. During his five-year tenure, he conducted subscription concerts, special programs at the Hollywood Bowl, and Symphonies for Youth concerts, and led the orchestra in premieres of numerous works.

ALON GOLDSTEIN is one of the most respected young pianists on the international scene. Admired for technical prowess and musical intelligence, he is poised to lead his talented generation. Goldstein earned his masters degree from the Peabody Conservatory, where he worked intensively with Leon Fleisher. He has earned glowing recommendations from Fleisher, Claudio Abbado, and Zubin Mehta, among others. He has performed with top orchestras including the Israel Philharmonic, St. Louis and San Francisco Symphonies and has participated in the Aspen, Marlboro, Ravinia, and Tanglewood music festivals. This season marks his debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl, as well as re-engagements with the St. Louis and Dallas Symphonies.

Since its beginning in 1880, the USC SPIRIT OF TROY MARCHING BAND has grown to become the largest spirit group on the University of Southern California campus. The modern band consists of 250 musicians and 30 tall flags, representing 60 major fields of undergraduate and graduate study. The Band has performed at the Liberty Bowl, the Fiesta Bowl, the Aloha Bowl, the Citrus Bowl, the Freedom Bowl, and the Cotton Bowl. In 1996, the Trojan Marching Band made its unprecedented 28th appearance in the Rose Bowl. The contemporary Trojan Band began in 1970 when Dr. Arthur C. Bartner assumed leadership of the band. In Dr. Bartner's 31 years at USC, the Trojan Band has gained wide popularity throughout the nation with an impressive list of motion picture and television appearances including Forrest Gump and Sgt. Bilko, as well as numerous other engagements, including performances with Doc Severinsen, Henry Mancini, Quincy Jones, Diana Ross, and Bill Conti, among others. The Trojan Band is the only collegiate marching band in the country to appear on stage at the Hollywood Bowl. Almost every summer, the band is featured as part of the festive fireworks performance of the1812 Overture finale at the Bowl's annual Tchaikovsky Spectacular.
