Brass and Organ Program Includes Members of the
Los Angeles Philharmonic and Guest Organist David Goode

The festive spirit of the holiday season is heard in the glorious sounds of brass instruments and the magnificent new Walt Disney Concert Hall organ on Sunday, December 12, at 7:30 p.m. The program features members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and acclaimed organist David Goode performing a selection of sacred works and traditional holiday classics, concluding with a merry medley of carols.

The brass and organ performance includes Bach's Sinfonia from Cantata 29 plus two pieces by Gabrieli: Canzon duodecimi toni and Sonata pian' e forte. Also featured is Purvis' Carol Rhapsody, Dupré's Variations sur un Noël, Hazell's In dulci jubilo and the traditional "Joy to the World" and "Let It Snow," both arranged by William Berry.

This concert is the third of nine diverse Holiday programs presented by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association in its Deck the Hall series, highlighting all types of seasonal celebrations. The series continues with "Home for the Holidays" with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Dianne Reeves (December 18 and 19); "A Celtic Christmas" with Eileen Ivers and Immigrant Soul (December 20); Chanticleer (December 21); "Latin Christmas" with Ozomatli, Kinky and Juana Molina (December 22); "Spirit of the Holidays with Keb' Mo'"(December 23) and Pink Martini (December 31).

DAVID GOODE is among the leading concert organists of his generation. Born in England, he was a music scholar at Eton College and then organ scholar at King's College, Cambridge from 1991-1994, graduating with top honors. From 1996-2001 he was Sub-Organist at Christ Church, Oxford and was recently appointed Organist-in-Residence at The First Congregational Church of Los Angeles (succeeding, among others, Frederick Swann), where he presides over the world's largest church organ in weekly services and recitals. He has appeared as a soloist at many of the UK's leading venues (such as the Proms and the Royal Festival Hall), as well as playing across Europe, Canada, South Africa and the Far East. Goode has made many visits to the US since 1998, including features on the popular 'Pipedreams' radio program, and in November 2002 was Visiting Professor at William Jewell College in Missouri. With a repertoire stretching from medieval and renaissance music, he is best known for his performances of large-scale Romantic works, but has also played works by dozens of contemporary composers. He is a regular presence on radio and television in the UK as well as broadcasting in Europe, the U.S. and Australia in recent years. Over several years he has developed a close relationship with the BBC Singers and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, but has also appeared with the CBSO, and recorded Saint-Saëns' 'Organ' Symphony with the BBC Philharmonic. He recorded his first solo CD, French Showpieces from King's, while still an undergraduate; its successors have included the popular Orb and Sceptre, described as featuring 'a justly famous recitalist, playing with panache and sensitivity' (Organist's Review), and Commotio, a disc of 20th-century masterpieces (Choir and Organ - 'imaginative and stimulating…brilliantly clear and well-paced'). He is now engaged in the landmark project of recording the complete organ works of Max Reger on 17 CDs.
