    Evelyn Glennie continues her artist residency program with the Los Angeles Philharmonic in the second of two projects. Along with red fish blue fish and its Artistic Director Steven Schick, Glennie performs a range of contemporary percussion repertoire at Walt Disney Concert Hall on Monday, May 9, at 8 p.m. The Green Umbrella series program includes Steve Reich's Nagoya Marimbas, Bob Becker's Mudra, Nebojsa Zivkovic's Fluctus, Áskell Másson's Prím, Iannis Xenakis' Rebonds and David Lang's the so-called laws of nature.

    On Location, the Los Angeles Philharmonic's artist residency program, focuses on exploring the musical interests and artistic personalities of some of the world's greatest performers. Glennie's percussion artistry is showcased in a number of activities including three concerts as soloist with the Philharmonic (May
    6 - 8), and this Green Umbrella program.

    An Upbeat Live pre-concert event takes place one hour prior to the concert in BP Hall at Walt Disney Concert Hall, and is free to all ticket holders.

    The Green Umbrella series showcases new music ranging from solo works to chamber opera, performed by guest artists, members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Los Angeles Philharmonic New Music Group. Concerts take place in Walt Disney Concert Hall.

    EVELYN GLENNIE gives more than 100 critically acclaimed performances a year all over the world. The two-time Grammy winner has performed with virtually all of the world's finest orchestras and greatest conductors in the most famous concert halls. She combines superb technical abilities, a profound appreciation of the visual elements of percussion, and her astonishing musicality to create performances of stunning vitality. The first person to successfully create and sustain a full-time career as a solo percussionist in the history of classical music, Glennie continues to redefine the goals and expectations of percussion students, orchestras, concert promoters, and audiences. Additionally, Glennie has written a best-selling autobiography, Good Vibrations, and hosted two series of her own television programs for the BBC. More recently, Glennie has teamed up with Greg Malcangi, to compose, record and produce music for film and television. Glennie is one of the Los Angeles Philharmonic's On Location resident artists for the 2004/2005 season.

    red fish blue fish (Steven Schick, Artistic Director) is the resident ensemble of percussionists of the University of California, San Diego. The group serves as a laboratory for the exploration of new work for percussion and tours this work regularly. red fish, blue fish has played in New York at Lincoln Center and the Henry Street Settlement as part of the Bang on a Can Festival, in Paris at the Agora Festival, at Mexico City's Centro de Bellas Artes, at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and as a regularly featured ensemble on the Los Angeles Philharmonic's Green Umbrella series. In the 2004/2005 season, red fish blue fish will present a featured concert at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention in Nashville.

    STEVEN SCHICK has championed contemporary percussion music as a performer and teacher for the past twenty years. He is the founder and Artistic Director of the percussion group red fish blue fish. From 2000 through 2004 he served as Artistic Director of the Centre International de Percussion de Genève in Geneva, Switzerland, and he was the percussionist for the Bang on a Can All-Stars of New York City from 1992 through 2002. Schick has commissioned and premiered more than 100 new works for percussion and has performed these across the United States and abroad. He has recorded for SONY Classical, Wergo, Point, CRI, Neuma, and Cantaloupe Records. Schick is Professor of Music at the University of California, San Diego, and Lecturer in Percussion at the Manhattan School of Music. He has been a regular guest lecturer at the Rotterdam Conservatory and the Royal College of Music in London. An Iowa native, Schick studied at the University of Iowa and received the Soloists Diploma from the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg, Germany.
