  • New Show Tops Off Stellar 2009 Summer Season

Tickets on Sale Saturday, July 11, at 10 AM

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, AT 7:00 PM

Back by popular demand after the sold out show in 2002, the ultimate disco dance party, Disco Fever 3, returns to the Hollywood Bowl featuring the legendary Kool & The Gang, joined by CHIC with 2009 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominee, Nile Rodgers, and the ever-popular Village People. The show also features fan favorites including disco karaoke and special disco dancers onstage throughout the show. Disco Fever 3 on Sunday, September 27, at 7:00 pm is an addition to the already stellar Hollywood Bowl 2009 summer season. Tickets go on sale Saturday, July 11, at 10 a.m.

Special guest disco diva superstars include Thelma Houston (“Don’t Leave Me This Way,” “Saturday Night, Sunday Morning,” “If It’s The Last Thing I Do,” “You Used To Hold Me So Tight”); Yvonne Elliman (“If I Can’t Have You,” “Love Me,” “Hello Stranger,” “Love Pains”) and Maxine Nightingale (“Right Back Where We Started From,” “Love Hit Me,” “Lead Me On”).

The unmistakable grooves of Kool & The Gang have made them one of the most inspired and influential R&B/Funk groups of the 70s and 80s. With the release of Wild and Peaceful, they enjoyed their first Top 40 single, “Funky Stuff.” “Jungle Boogie” and “Hollywood Swinging” soon followed, both reaching the Top 10. In 1977, the group shared an Album of the Year Grammy award with all the artists who contributed to the Saturday Night Feversoundtrack. Following the release of what is still the best-selling soundtrack of all time, with sales topping an astounding 15 million copies worldwide, Kool & The Gang became a bona fide household name. In 1979, Ladies Night was released, and became their biggest hit to date, spawning the Top 10 singles “Too Hot” and “Ladies Night.” Although the disco era was rumored to be dead by the end of the 1970s, Kool & The Gang’s success continued. They secured their place as superstars by unleashing the chart-topping, dance clubbing international number one hit “Celebration” in 1980, an anthem that has defined an era ever since.

When Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards formed CHIC in the 1970s, they created a distinctive sound that resulted in some of the finest dance singles of the era. Smash hits such as “Dance, Dance, Dance,” “I Want Your Love” and their first number-one single “Le Freak,” have served as a template for urban funk, dance pop, and even hip-hop in the post-disco era. Their sophomore album, C’est Chic, spent five weeks on top of the charts and became one of the rare disco albums to go platinum. 1979’s Risqué also went platinum, partly on the strength of CHIC’s second number-one hit, “Good Times.”

Partly known for their flamboyant costume designs, the Village People were worldwide sensations during disco’s heyday. The group first clicked in England with the single "San Francisco (You Got Me)" in 1977, then swept the disco scene stateside with "Macho Man" in 1978. "Y.M.C.A." and "In the Navy" soon followed and were worldwide smashes, both peaking at number two on the pop charts.

One of the largest natural amphitheaters in the world, with a seating capacity of nearly 18,000, the HOLLYWOOD BOWL has been the summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic since its official opening in 1922, and is home to the best and brightest in all genres of music. The 2004 season introduced audiences to a revitalized Hollywood Bowl, featuring a newly-constructed shell and stage and the addition of four stadium screens enhancing stage views in the venue. To this day, $1 buys a seat at the top of the Bowl for many of the Los Angeles Philharmonic's concerts. While the Bowl is best known for its sizzling summer nights, during the day California's youngest patrons enjoy "SummerSounds: Music for Kids at the Hollywood Bowl," the Southland's most popular summer arts festival for children, now in its 42nd season. In January 2009, the Hollywood Bowl was named Best Major Outdoor Concert Venue for the fifth year in a row at the 20th Annual Pollstar Concert Industry Awards; the Bowl's summer music festival has become as much a part of a Southern California summer as beaches and barbecues, the Dodgers, and Disneyland.
